Animal inventory

General Description

Animal inventory is an Inventory Management Software designed to manage the stock of mice* and fish in a research laboratory. It is based on a MySQL database with a web interface. (* as well as rats, guinea pig and rabbit since oct-2011)

This software permits the management of systems, cubicles, pools, mouse sheets, accommodations, prices, lineages, strains (for fish) as well as frozen semen samples for fish integrated with the list of pools.

As the software is designed to encode the transfer of the animals inside the different sheets and pools it is therefore ideal for displaying the current state of the accommodations (current number of animals and pools along with their distribution by researchers, etc.) in real-time.

As the software keep tracks of the number of mice / aquariums used for each searcher, the user can generate bills at the end of each month, sorted by research leader and price. Either the number of mice or the number of pools can be billed.

Software functions:

For both mouse and fish labs:

• Management of user rights (username / password) with 4 levels of user profile (researcher, bio technician, secretary, super user) fully customizable for each user-type.
• Event history (logs, use of stock, equipment qualification)
• Generation of bills in PDF format for each research leader (grouped by price type).

For mouse labs:

• Management of cubicles and their associated list of mouse sheets.
• Encoding of the movements of mice within each mouse sheet.
• Definition of a price list per customers and accommodation types for each type of animal.
• Definition of a list of lineages.
• Definition of research numbers.
• Display the state of the animal housing by cubicle, researcher, research leader or research number
• View of the month and past events on each mouse sheet.
• Printing of stickers in excel format for each mouse sheet.

For fish labs:

• Management of the systems and their associated list of pools.
• Management of frozen semen samples and their associated storage location .
• Splitting and pooling of pools for reproduction and billing purposes.
• Encoding of the movements of fish inside each pool.
• Definition of a price list per customer and accommodation type.
• Definition of a list of lineages.
• Definition of research numbers.
• Display the state of the animal housing by system, by researcher, research leader or research number
• View of the month and past events for each pool.
• Printing of stickers in excel format for each pool.

• PDF reader - tested using Adobe Acrobat Reader 6 (and above)
• Microsoft Excel to print the stickers
